Liver is an Essential Organ for Survival

The liver is the largest and one of the most complex organs in the body. It is essential for survival. From ancient times the liver was considered an organ of fate. The Egyptians considered the lover to the seat of the life force.

It is located on the right side of the abdomen.It is respected by the surgeons for its inherent mythes as well as because it is one of the most vascular organs in the abdomen.

Symptoms of Liver Diseases :

In the early stages, the patients with cirrhisis suffer from non specific complanints like Exhaustion, fatigue, Loss of appetite, Nausea, Weakness, Weight loss and itching.

The disease may progress and the patient may develop complications like swelling over feet (Edema) or swelling of abdomen (Ascites), highter tendency for bruising and bleeding, yellowing the skin and eyes (jaundice), altered mentation, neglect of personal appearance, unresponsiveness, forgetfulness, trouble concentrating, or changes in sleep habits (Encephalopathy) due to Toxins in the blood or brain. Portal hypertension may develop leading to varices and they can rupture leading to vomiting of blood or bleeding throught the rectum. Kidney failure may also developin lae stages. Diabetes may develop when the currhisis advances.

Treatment of Liver disease :

Liver damage from cirrhosis cannot be reversed but treatment can stop of delay further progression and reduce complications when detected and treated early. Treatment depends of the cause of cirrhosis and any complications and person is experiencing e.g. cirrhisis caused by alcohol abuse is treated by abstaining from alcohol. Treatment for hepatitis related cirrhisis involves medications used to treat the different types of hepatitis, such as Interferom, Lamivudine, Ribavarine for viral hepatitis and corticosteroids for autoimmune hepatitis.

Treatement will also include remedies for complications. For example, for ascites and edema, the doctor may recommend a low-sodium diet or the use of diuretics, with are drugs that remove fluid from the body, Antibiotics will be prescribed for infections, and various medications can belp with itching. Animal protein causes toxins to form in the digestive tract. Eating less protein will help decrease the buildup of toxins in the blood and brain. However complete avoidance of proteins prescribe laxatives to help absorb the toxins and remove them from the intestines.

When complications cannot be controlled or when the liver becomes so damaged from cirrhosis theat it completely stops functioning, a liver transplant to save the life.
